Just after 7 am Wednesday morning a Dodge pickup was eastbound on Waukegan Road at FM 1485. As the driver attempted to turn left he failed to yield right of way to a southbound 1992 Dodge Dakota. The Dakota slammed into the Dodge 1500 pushing it into the northbound FM 1485 ditch. The impact broke the steering wheel off and bent the frame of the Dakota. That driver was transported to HCA Conroe in critical condition. The driver of the Dodge 1500 was transported in stable condition. DPS investigated the crash. With heavy traffic, Waukegan Road was backed up to almost SH 105. There have been several crashes at the intersection. Trucks traveling northbound on FM 1485 going to Ameritex and Builders First Choice on Waukegan must drive into the southbound lanes of FM 1485 and then wait for traffic to clear from the stop sign on westbound Waukegan to make their turn. That combined with the multiple subdivisions built on the Waukegan and Willis-Waukegan corridor has increased traffic ten-fold.
