Just before 1:00p.m. Thursday afternoon New Caney Fire Department was dispatched to a accident involving a PT Cruiser and a dump truck loaded with dirt. When they arrived the dump truck was facing north in the southbound ditch and a black PT Cruiser was crumpled in front of him. Firefighters found a twenty-one-year old female who was in and out of consciousness. She was also trapped in the vehicle. After almost twenty minutes fire fighters were able to free her.
She was stabilized and then flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition.
According to DPS Trooper McGilbery who investigated the accident the 21-year-old New Caney woman was northbound on FM 1485 and had pulled to the shoulder. She then attempted a u-turn in front of a truck loaded with dirt. pushing her several hundred feet down the road and into the ditch.
FM 1485 remained closed until almost 5p.m. as LaBuff Towing heavy duty wrecker attempted to get the truck out of the ditch. When it went in it laid against a utility pole. After the truck was almost removed one of the two cables on the wrecker broke.
At that point Humble Towing’s heavy duty wrecker attempted and after over an hour was finally able to remove the truck from the ditch.
Travis Bishop responded to the scene to secure the fuel spill in the ditch and the continued leaking fuel from the truck.
As FM 1485 was reopened the dump truck was moved to the Flying J Truck Stop where DPS Commercial Vehicle Inspector Al Eason completed and inspection of the truck. the vehicle which weighed 61,000 pounds but by only 2,000 pounds.
