Just before 8:30p.m. Monday Magnolia Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a major accident with fire just north of the intersection of Wood Trace on the northbound lanes.
As fire crews arrived the found a black 2007 Pontiac which had struck a tree and utility pole and was totally involved in flames as were the power lines. With flames above the trees firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the blaze. It was then they located a male who had been ejected and was deceased on the scene. He was thrown clear of the fire when he was ejected.
Witnesses said the vehicle had been traveling northbound on SH 249 at a high rate of speed. When the lanes narrowed from three to two the driver tried to cut in but lost control striking the curb, crossing the lanes and striking the tree and pole.
DPS Troopers are attempting to notify family members of the incident as the driver who appeared in his mid-twenties and was from Bryan, Texas.
