Just before midnight Wednesday Walker County began receiving 911 calls for a reported head on crash on Interstate 45 feeder between FM 1374 and FM 1375. New Waverly Fire Department arrived on the scene and found a Nissan pickup in the ditch on it’s side. Another vehicle was a short distance away on the shoulder with heavy right front damage.
Early reports was that a female driver who was new to the area and unfamiliar with the two-way feeder was in the left lane heading south. The Nissan pickup was northbound. The driver of the pickup, seeing the vehicle coming at him head on took evasive action. The female driver clipped the pickup causing it to flip.
The female driver and a passenger of the pickup were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The feeder on the west side of Interstate 45 between FM 1374 and FM 1375, as with many other feeder roads in the Walker County and other rural counties in Texas are two way. The are marked not just with signage but with a double solid line in the center of the roadway.
DPS was assisted by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation and traffic control.
