CRASH INJURES PRIZE HORSES

Just before noon on Sunday, Christian King and her husband were returning from a horse event with two prize horses in tow, when Javier Rivera Laredo, driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup, pulled out in front of them from a private driveway roughly fifty feet away.

The Kings, driving a F-250 and pulling a goose neck horse trailer, slammed into the Chevrolet pickup, throwing it into the ditch on the westbound lanes of FM 1488.

The force of the crash caused the separation wall inside the trailer to give under one of the horses weight, collapsing onto the other horse.

The Kings were uninjured, but Laredo was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston by Life Flight.

The horses, a German Holsteiner named “Lola” and an Appendix Quarter Horse named “Brandi,” were checked by a local vet and determined to had minor injuries. According to the Kings, who own Steep Hollow Stables in the Bryan/ College Station area, the horses were valued at close to $250,000.

It is believed alcohol may be a contributing factor on the injured driver.
