A head-on collision on SH 242 west of FM 1314 around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday killed one driver and injured another.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Terry Barnhill said 28-year-old Jose Flores of Conroe was westbound in a Kia Optima when a Mitsubishi Galant is driven by 83-year-old Winston Wilbert Lamp from the Bennett Estates area in East Montgomery County crossed the center line and struck the Kia.
Lamp was pronounced dead on the scene. Flores was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital in stable condition.
Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts conducted an inquest and had the body transported to the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Conroe.
Barnhill said the crash did not appear to be weather related.
