Two people were seriously injured in an overnight crash near Lake Conroe. The accident occurred on Tejas Drive just before midnight when a pickup rounded a curve, went into a side skid and struck a utility pole with the passenger side door.
The Lake Conroe Fire Department arrived to find live power lines on the truck, preventing them from immediately gaining access to the victims. Montgomery County Hospital District medics and Texas Department of Public Safety officers were also helpless to do anything until Mid South Electric could be contacted and send someone to the scene to disconnect the power.
Once the power was cut off, the real work began for firefighters who used almost every tool in their truck to free the couple from the wreckage. The extrication took almost an hour.
Because of heavy fog moving in, PHI Air Medical and Life Flight were grounded and unable to transport the female as requested by medics. She was transported by ground ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The male was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital.
