CROCKETT MARTIN FATAL CRASH

On Thursday, at approximately 6:15 pm, NMC Fire and Caney Creek Fire responded to a reported head-on crash involving a wheelchair van and a pickup with at least three victims trapped. Units arrived to find a Dodge Minivan with Handicap placards and signage showing it as an adult daycare for Special Needs. In it three occupants in the rear were trapped and in critical condition. The driver was stable. Also, there was a Toyota Tundra pickup with the driver, who was out of the vehicle, suffering minor injuries. The three passengers in the rear of the minivan had not been secured; in fact, two had been sitting in a standard office chair. All three were transported to the hospital in critical condition. While en route, one of those Special Needs individuals went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced deceased when arriving at HCA Conroe Hospital. DPS investigated the crash and was assisted by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Vehicular Crimes Unit. Early indications are the van was traveling south on Crockett Martin when the driver encountered the Toyota, traveling northbound and unable to maintain a lane. The two hit head-on. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control as did Precinct 1 Constables. Crockett Martin, a heavily traveled road, was closed for close to 5 hours with an extremely heavy backup. The road reopened at 11 pm.
