dash cam video released by coNroe police of saturday’s officer shooting

As Sgt. James Keleman rests at home following surgery, Conroe Police today released the video of the incident.

Saturday afternoon Sgt. James Keleman responded to the Discount Bakery in the #00 block of North Loop 336.  As he pulls in the driveway he sees the man  with the gun. Several times he tells him to put the gun down. “Put the gun down and we will talk,” Kelleman told the gunman.

The gunman moves around the red car several times taking a bead on the officer, then he fires, you see the puff of smoke and then the officer yells out in pain.

At that point several other officers arrive on the scene, the gunman still armed between the cars, once again attempts to raise the weapon and is shot himself by other officers.

Tonight many fellow officers met with Sgt. Keleman at the Conroe Police Department. In surgery Monday, Keleman lost his right eye. He now is wearing a patch. When he entered the station tonight he was greeted by at least 30 officers all wearing eye patches.

He was able to sit down for the first time with them and view the video which in its entirety is over one hour. However, once they start treating the officer his body mike for his dash cam shuts down leaving almost an hour of silent video.
