Deadly Wrong-way Driver’s Competency Hearing

A Montgomery County Jury found a man incompetent of standing trial on charges of intoxication manslaughter. Two years ago, Edward Blackwell was accused of driving intoxicated and the wrong way down I-45 when he killed three people in an automobile accident. Blackwell suffered several head injuries in the accident. His attorney, Tay Bond, told K-STAR that he hopes to reach an agreement with the DA’s Office in to place Blackwell in some type of inpatient neurological specialty facility. Blackwell has been in the Montgomery County Jail for the past 13 months.

The DA’s Office told K-Star that this is a difficult case, and they believe it is important to press the issue of competency as far as possible with the┬ájury to ensure they’ve done all they can do for the families of the victims. They added that they’ll consider the remaining legal options for accountability in the case.
