On Friday, January 17, 2026, at approximately 0139 hours, an unknown male was operating a white 2022 GMC Terrain southbound in the number two lane of the 21600 block of Tomball Parkway. At the same time, Julio Calero was operating a white 2015 Chevrolet Equinox the wrong way, northbound in the southbound, number two lane, and struck the front left of the GMC. As a result of the collision, the GMC caught on fire. The driver and sole occupant of the GMC was removed from the vehicle and transported to a local area hospital for treatment. Mr. Calero was found onthe scene with no signs of life. Sheriff Gonzalez says deputies and wrecker drivers saved the second driver from the burning vehicle. The driver had major injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Three deputies had minor injuries from getting the second driver from the burning vehicle. Paramedics checked out the deputies at the scene, and they didn’t need to be hospitalized.
This case remains open and under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
