DEPUTY LOSES PART OF LEG FOLLOWING PATROL CAR CRASH IN LIVINGSTON

UPDATE-Deputy Boyer is still critical. The injury was so bad to his left leg that doctors were forced to partially amputate it.

ORIGINAL STORY

At approximately 11:30 pm on May 12, 2023, Deputy Caleb Boyer with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was westbound on US-190 West.  Boyer was responding to an urgent call near Onalaska.  Deputy Boyer came up behind a trailer that possibly had no lights (being pulled by a pickup) and nearly struck it.  Boyer cut right to avoid a collision.  His patrol unit left the pavement to the right, jumped a culvert, landed, and rolled.  During the rollover, Boyer was ejected around fifty feet from his vehicle that came to rest upside down next to Pueblo Viejo Restaurant.  During the ejection, Boyer landed in the grass (front lawn area of Pueblo Viejo).  Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Trooper Nick Hatton with the Texas Highway Patrol, and other Polk County Deputies, Constables, and Officers with Livingston Police Department.  An Air Life medical helicopter landed in the middle of 190 West.  Deputy Boyer was flown to Kingwood Hospital.  Sheriff Byron Lyons led his men in prayer for Deputy Boyer.  The totaled patrol unit was recovered by Ken’s Towing.  This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
