Donald George Wilkins, Conroe, TX, (formerly of Galveston, TX) died in his sleep on January 15, 2017. Don (or Donnie as he was often called) was born in Galveston, TX, on January 8, 1940. He was raised by his maternal grandparents Opal (Foster) and George Wilkins. Don attended St. John’s Lutheran, Lovenberg JH and Ball High schools in Galveston. Don excelled at his passion of music during these years. He was President of the BHS band his senior year.

He continued his music path by graduating with a degree from the University of North Texas, Denton. After college, he taught music at several schools including Galveston, Dickinson, Texas City, League City and Clute. Don’s love of all that is music transcended to the Galveston Beach Band which he participated in for many years. His other pastimes included sailing and other water sports, which he often enjoyed with his family.

Don is survived by his children: Donna Pearson Coselli (Frank), Donny J. Wilkins (Tricia), and Stacey Wilkins Wasek; and his grandchildren: Frank Coselli, IV, Phillip Coselli, Kelly Wasek, and Kate Wilkins and Daxton Wilkins; plus, cousins Pat Garland (Merle), Karen G. Roach, Maureen McCabe (Brian), Susan Combs, Peggy Walker (Dennis), and numerous other relatives. He also leaves behind his longtime companion, Jenny Fleming; and close family friend Johnnie Mary Verschoyle.
