DOUBLE FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION CONTINUES- ALSO CRASH SCENE VIDEO POSTED

Just because the road had cleared and the victims had been removing the investigation continues into the double fatal crash on Interstate 45 Friday morning. As several DPS Troopers awaited the doctor’s release of Nicole Nadra Baukus, 23 of Spring to transport her to the Montgomery County Jail, other troopers were still on the scene of the crash plotting every object, piece, road stripe, gouge in the road, etc. This is an effort to recreate the scene on a computer. Hundreds of photos were taken including having Needham Fire Department responded with a ladder truck. This enabled a trooper to get almost fifty feet over the scene to photograph a better aspect of it. Troopers also moved the vehicles back together using reference points on the roadway as their guide. A gouge on the road matching a scrape on the frame, another cut matching another component of the vehicle. Skid marks matching the tires.

All this data helps not just in the investigation but also when it goes to court. Leaving almost no stone unturned they worked from 3 am until almost 10 am just on the scene. As they did this other troopers had the heartbreaking task of locating a loved one to notify them of the loss of a family member.

Names and descriptions of vehicles usually aren’t shown on this site until after that happens. If they are it is usually a vehicle so mangled that most people can; ’t even identify the vehicle.

Victims are another thing. Several years ago an organization responsible for harvesting organs for transplant contacted the wife of a deceased man in the Magnolia area. DPS which has limited manpower in each county of Texas normally investigates the crash first, clears it then makes a notification. This night it was different. As they worked the scene a deputy called them from the roadblock that a female claiming to be the wife was on the scene. Troopers were forced to notify her in the middle of the road with her husband’s body still in the vehicle that he was dead,

The Thursday crash was a challenge also. The family of the injured boy David Porras was notified he was in the hospital.

With Nicole Adams living in Conroe, it was easy to go to that location and locate her family.

Then the family of the young man in the back seat, Travis Sanders. The scene happened at 3 am by the time troopers had to locate Mr. Sanders family most people were already on the road to work. Your driver’s license doesn’t have the work addresses of family members. Yes, sometimes there are cell phones o the scenes but troopers notify the families in person, not in a phone call.

Mr Sanders was located late in the morning and was notified. Troopers then traveled with him to Travis’ mother’s place of employment to inform her which was finally mid-afternoon.

This is one thing the Texas Department Of Public Safety has going for them. A statewide organization of troopers working together as one. I a fatal crash happened in Conroe and that person was from Pampa, Texas, DPS would notify a trooper there to go to the victim’s home to make a notification.

Many times drivers’ licenses haven’t been changed or people reliving on their own. This again gives these troopers another challenge of locating a loved one.

It is for this reason Montgomery County Police Reporter waits until we are notified by troopers that the immediate family had been notified. Before social media, this wasn’t a problem but now with social media some come on wanting descriptions of vehicles, others question why we don’t have a name yet and another news outlet does. This has been a challenge for us to try to monitor the site for issues like this but many times there is no time for monitoring as Montgomery County grows so does the news grow.

When the trooper’s work is almost complete the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office picks up. Warren Diepraam the lead Assistant District Attorney over vehicular crimes assigns many of their investigators to start fanning out. Looking for witnesses prior to the crash. Any videos that may available from just about anywhere. Other Investigators skim through news articles, social media, anything they can discover on the person charged. This continues all the way through the judicial process.
