UPDATE-THE WRONG WAY DRIVER HAS NOT YET BEEN IDENTIFIED
THE DRIVER WHO WAS STRUCK HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS MUHAMMAD BHATTI, 61 OF NEW CANEY
At about 1:45 am a Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputy was southbound on I-69 when he spotted a 2016 Hyundai Sonata traveling south in the northbound lane. He alerted other units, but within a mile, that Hyundai hit a 2012 Hyundai Genesis head-on. The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The northbound driver, from New Caney who was trapped, was taken to Kingwood Hospital in critical condition. He passed away just after 10:30 am Friday. He was just two exits from being at his home. Firefighters worked close to 15 minutes to free him. Houston Police are investigating the crash. HPD was assisted by MCSO, Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables, and DPS. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. i-69 at Kingwood will remain closed for several more hours.
