DOUBLE FATAL CRASH ON SH 249

SH 249 just north of FM 1774 reopened about 8:30 am Saturday morning after an early morning double fatal crash. At 12:45 am, Hugo Valderrama-Quintero, 45, of Spring, was traveling east on SH 249 in a Toyota Highlander. With him was a female front-seat passenger, the mother of three small children ages 1,3, and 7 who were in the back seat. Also, another family friend is in the back seat. A Ford Escape was traveling westbound on SH 249. That vehicle was driven by Wenser Carrero, 31, of Pasco, Washington. The Escape crossed the center line, striking the Highlander head-on. The driver of the Highlander was pronounced deceased on the scene. The front seat passenger was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. The three children and the female back seat passenger were transported to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands by family members who responded to the scene. After the initial crash, a Honda Civic, which was westbound, did not see the crash in the dark area of the road and slammed into the Ford Escape, which was disabled in the westbound lane. The driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Escape was pronounced deceased on the scene. It has yet to be determined which crash actually killed the Ford Escape driver. DPS is investigating. Magnolia Fire and MCHD assisted Grimes County units on the scene. MCSO assisted with traffic control.
