DPS IDENTIFIES VICTIMS OF SUNDAYS SH 105 HEAD-ON DOUBLE FATAL CRASH

The preliminary report indicates Sunday, November 29, 2020, at approximately 8:09 p.m., a 2020 BMW 330i was traveling westbound on SH 105 on the Trinity River Bridge. A 2009 Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound on SH 105. The BMW entered the eastbound lane to pass a truck and collided with the Mustang. The BMW then went over the guardrail and dropped upside down, 20-feet below. A 2020 Chevrolet Equinox traveling behind the Mustang was struck from behind by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the BMW 56 – year old Michael Porter of Rusk, TX was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Mustang 72 – year old Jimmy Wayne Curtis of Ragley, Louisiana was transported to HCA Emergency Hospital in Conroe and pronounced deceased by medical staff. The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox 39 – year old Geoff Carr was transported to Herman Memorial in stable condition. The passenger of the Chevrolet Equinox 15 – year old female was transported to Herman Memorial in stable condition. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado 52 – year old Derek Willis Cormier of Cleveland, TX was transported to Memorial Herman in serious condition. DPS responded along with Hardin, Tarkington, Cypress Lakes, and Plum Grove Fire Departments. They arrived at SH 105 completely closed. SH 105 was closed for over 5-hours as the crash was investigated. Smith Towing responded with a heavy-duty wrecker and raised the BMW upside down. The engine had to be secured to the vehicle as it was falling out of it. SH 105 reopened at 1:45 am.
