DPS PARTICIPATES IN LIVE ACTION HURRICANE DRILL

The Texas Department of Public Safety and numerous other agencies in the Waco area are participating in a live-action hurricane drill June 23 through June 24, 2010. This exercise is intended to test emergency mobilization, response and preparedness in the event of a real natural or man-made disaster.

Numerous law enforcement and response vehicles will stage at the Holiday Inn in Bellmead and depart from there on Wednesday morning, June 23, 2010. The personnel and vehicles involved will respond in this drill just like an actual emergency and travel to Kingwood, Texas to stage. Response vehicles will leave in large groups with emergency lights activated and travel on Loop 340, State Highway 6 and State Highway 164 to Interstate Highway 45. When they reach SH 242 they will travel east to US 59 then south to Kingwood Drive with the final destination being Kingwood College. The convoys will be traveling at speeds slower than the posted speed limit on public roadways. Motorists are asked to use caution when they encounter these vehicles; they may pass the convoy if they are able to do so safely.
