It was just after 2 p.m., when Tran Phu of Houston was eastbound on SH 105 at Walden Road in his 1998 Nissan mini-van and Karli Reich of The Woodlands was westbound in her 2004 Isuzu Ascender, approaching the same intersection.

According to DPS Trooper Ward, just as Reich approached the intersection, an eastbound white Toyota Sedan turned left from a ‘no left turn’ lane on SH 105 onto Walden Rd., disregarding a red light. Reich took evasive action to avoid a collision, and instead struck Phu’s mini-van.

A Montgomery firefighter was in a nearby Exxon parking lot and immediately requested rescue equipment and an ambulance. Montgomery firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free Phu from the wreckage. Phu and his unidentified passenger were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands in stable condition. Reich was uninjured.

The Toyota, whose driver was described as a dark skinned male, fled the scene on Walden Road.

DPS is asking anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information regarding the vehicle or its driver to contact DPS – Conroe at 936 539-3754.
