As 25-year-old Daniel Newton Donaldson of Sugarland still lies in Hermann Hospital in critical condition the case is still being investigated.
Just after midnight Monday Trooper Craig Ward was running stationary radar on Interstate 45 northbound just south of Willis when Donaldson passed him in his Lexus ES 330 at a speed of 120mph. Trooper Ward gave pursuit and was able to stop him just north of Longstreet Road.
Ward approached the Lexus with his weapon drawn and ordered Donaldson out of the vehicle. As he had him on the ground Ward holstered his weapon and was cuffing Donaldson when Donaldson attempted to grab the weapon from Trooper Ward. AS Donaldson was able to get on top of Ward ward shot him.
He was taken by EMS to Hermann Hospital Woodlands where he was later Life Flighted to Houston.
Charges are pending as the Texas Rangers and Montgomery County District Attorney continue the investigation.
