Hit-and-run crashes in Montgomery County have been on the increase. A fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist on FM 2090 last month. Then days later another hit-and-run fatal crash on SH 105 at FM 1485 on the morning of Christmas Eve. Trooper Corporal Licon, Trooper Perales, Trooper Stahr, and Sgt. Hartung and Trooper Thurston worked that crash and were bound and determined to find the person who ran over Dallas Cacres-Torres just before 4 am. Licon was dispatched to the crash in which Cacres-Torres was traveling east on SH 105 at FM 1485 on the far right shoulder. At the time an unknown vehicle struck him and fled the scene. His lifeless body lay in the road along with pieces of his bicycle. An Uber driver spotted the scene and called 911. That Uber driver had a fare with him earlier as he traveled east toward Cut N Shoot. He say the same bicyclist who now lay dead riding eastbound at FM 1314. It was on the return trip when he came across the fatal scene. The driver did have a dash cam. The driver also stated he saw a large, possibly Maroon truck flee the area at a high rate of speed. From the dash cam Cp. Licon was able to identify a larger model truck with a broken headlight. The truck had cab lights wide wheels, and oversized tires. It appeared to be a newer Ford F-250. Trooper Stahr was able to get an image from a camera on the South Loop near Stewarts Forest of the suspect vehicle and was able to get a license plate. The vehicle was traveling east on the Loop toward the area of the crash scene at 3:33 am. He was also able to locate another camera on FM 1488 in which the same vehicle was eastbound at 2:55 am. After running the license number it was found to be registered to Reynaldo Lujano at 365 Shoreview in Conroe. He was able to locate other video including that of the suspect truck turning north on Shoreview from the intersection of Crockett Martin and SH 105 at the same time the 911 call was coming in. Licon went to the Shoreview location and found the F-250 with damage to the bumper and broken headlight consistent with the crash and evidence found on the scene. When attempting to make contact with the driver the knocking at the door was just answered with someone peering through the blinds. Judge Walker signed a search warrant and the F-250 was seized and towed to impound. There on further inspection, Licon found the suspension of the vehicle had been powder-coated with a teal color. He found some damage to the suspension where the powder coating was missing. That color matched the same color found on the bicycle wheel at the scene. It was then as he was investigating that he determined that Montgomery County Deputy McCray stopped the F-250 with Lujano driving for speeding in the 2500 block of FM 1488 at 3:12 am. He cited him and released him at 3:27 am. Troopers continued to gather evidence and were contacted by a business owner close to the crash scene who discovered the crash was caught on their security cameras. Troopers went to the business and were able to see the same F250, with wheels, tires, cab lights, and glow lights. The video showed the crash with a dust cloud after impact and sparks in the road, The truck never stopped. Lujano was arrested on Thursday night and transported to the Montgomery County Jail. He is charged with failure to stop and render aid involving death. His bond has been set at $50,000 in the 221st District Court.
