DPS Region 2 Fire Updates 09/10/11

  1. Montgomery County (Tri-County Fire):

· Last night firefighters had to evacuate Subdivisions along FM 1486 from Magnolia, north to Jackson Road due to the wildfire. A damage assessment team will be entering the area this morning to assess damages. The areas evacuated will not reopen until it is safe to do so. Evacuees are asked to be patient and not call 911 for fire information, evacuation status, and road closures, 911 calls are for emergencies only.

  1. Waller County (Tri-County Fire):

· Last night reports estimate 8500 acres burned. Since Monday 4300 residents have been evacuated from the Mandatory Evacuated Zones.

· No additional structures burned since last report.

· 1 firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation last night.

· Volunteers fed 60+ horses, 60+ cattle, 30+ sheep, and 200+ dogs. They will put out 1600 lbs of grain, 4 round bales, and 100 square bales of hay and 1600 gallons of water. Unfortunately 1 cow was put down due to fire related injuries.

· New animal shelter location for stray animals only: Baker Vet Clinic, 21002 Briarmeadow Dr., Prairie View, TX.

  1. Grimes County: (Tri-County Fire):

  • No reports at this time.

  1. Colorado County (Brunes Mill Rd. Fire):

  • On 09/09/011 DPS Region 2 (Colorado County) had a 100 acre wildfire. The fire is now 100% contained. No injuries or fatalities to report, damage assessment unknown. There are no other fires active in DPS Region 2 other than the Tri-County fire at this time
