Driver in Deadly Crash Gets 50 Years

HARRIS COUNTY, TX- On November 19, 2022, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office attempted to stop a Jeep Cherokee in the 15500 block of Cypress Rosehill for a traffic violation. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped away, evading detention and driving southbound in the northbound lanes.

The Jeep collided head-on with a Dodge Journey, killing the driver and seriously injuring the front passenger. The suspect fled the scene on foot and was not immediately located. Constable Mark Herman’s Accident Investigation Team responded and determined the Jeep Cherokee had been reported stolen earlier that morning.

Through investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Destin Quintero. A warrant was obtained in December 2022 for Failure to Stop and Render Aid Causing Death. Following his arrest, Quintero was indicted by a Grand Jury in March 2024 for Murder and Aggravated Assault.

The case proceeded to trial in the 486th District Court on September 26, 2025. On October 2, 2025, a jury found Quintero guilty of Murder and sentenced him to 50 years in prison along with a $10,000 fine.

“Destin Quintero was arrested, charged, and tried before a jury of his peers, who found him guilty of murder and sentenced him to 50 years in prison. Through the combined efforts of Constable Mark Herman’s Office, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Vehicle Crimes Division, and our justice system, a dangerous offender has been removed from the streets of North Harris County.” – Constable Mark Herman
