UPDATE-
An arrest has been made been made overnight in the fatal crash. Jacob Kemp Doyle, 22, of 21 Carter Road, in Huntsville was taken into custody by DPS just before 2am at HCA Conroe Hospital. This was where he was transported after the crash. The passenger in Doyle’s truck who perished in the crash has not yet been identified. Doyle is charged with intoxicated manslaughter and unlawfully carrying a weapon. No bond has been set.
At about 6:45 pm Sunday a Chevrolet pickup was traveling north on FM 149 just past Arnsworth Drive when for unknown reasons the truck left the roadway and went into the ditch. It continued to travel north in the ditch until it struck a large dead oak tree that had fallen during Beryl and was approximately 6 feet off the ground hanging across the ditch. THe impact with the tree ripped the roof off. The truck continued several more hundred feet in the ditch before coming back up onto FM 149 and coming to rest just south of Chick Lane on the southbound shoulder. Montgomery Fire responded along with MCHD. The passenger was found to be deceased. He has not yet been identified but is 21, years old. The driver of the truck was transported to HCA Conroe in stable condition. DPS is continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit. Montgomery County Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack responded to the scene for the inquest. He ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. Milstead Wrecker loaded the truck. FM 149 reopened at 10:30 pm.
