DRIVER TELLS DEPUTY HE FORGOT THE COCAINE WAS IN THE VEHICLE

On Wednesday, January 29, 2020, a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Interdiction Unit initiated a traffic stop on US-59 in the Cleveland area. The driver was identified as Shannon Christopher Watson, W/M, DOB: 2/27/1985. Watson advised the deputy that he did not have a driver’s license. He then advised the deputy that he had two pistols in the vehicle and that he was a convicted felon for a drug possession charge.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and a gun bag containing the two pistols and three small Ziploc baggies were found. The baggies contained a white, powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. Watson advised the deputy that he forgot that the cocaine was in the vehicle. Shannon Christopher Watson was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Felony 3) and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony 3). He was transported to the Liberty County Jail without incident.
