Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constables Office, Lake Division have identified the victim of Monday’s drowning as Jamal Wiggins, 40, a Stafford realtor.
About 5:30p.m a call came into 911 that a man had gone under and not resurfaced. They said they were near the April Sound Marina and could see a Jack In the Box and some power lines crossing the lake. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Lake Patrol headed by Lt. Cade immediately responded from the marine office near the dam. North Montgomery County Fire Boat 94 responded from the Lake Station on FM 1097.
When they arrived on the scene they pulled a 25-year-old male out of the water.
Witnesses said that four people were on the boat with another person riding a tube being pulled behind the boat. A large wave came up knocking the tuber off the tube. Even though he had a life vest, he appeared in distress. Wiggins, who did not have a life vest jumped off the boat and headed for his friend in distress. He made it about half way to him when Wiggins went under. It was not known if he had a medical condition or just tired.
The person on the tube was transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
Precinct 1 Constables using sonar scanned approximately one square mile of the lake for any sign of Wiggins. They were able to locate several targets, a target is an unknown object in the water, a tree trunk, a body or anything else. Precinct 1 divers went down to check each target. At 10 p.m. they were able to locate Wiggins in about thirty feet of water.
Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack was called to the scene to complete the inquest and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport Wiggins to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
