Just before noon, a driver was traveling south on FM 1485 at a high rate of speed. As he entered the curve at the railroad tracks near the entrance to Lake Wildwood his rear tire went out. The driver left the roadway, hit the railroad tracks, and went airborne over them. Landing on the opposite side the vehicle continued through a barbed wire fence and crashed into the woods. Ironically, there was little body damage on the 1997 Mercury Marquis. However, the steering box was damaged as were several front-end components. The driver was not injured. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office worked the crash. At the time of the crash, a BNSF Railroad worker was on the scene testing the signals. He had just gotten in his truck. However, a short time before that he had the signals activated and gates down and was checking the gate when a female driver southbound almost slammed into him. She swerved and ended up in the gravel bed across the street.
Roscoe P. Coltrane worked the scene and opened the road soon after…chk…chk… those duke boyzzzz.
