11:50 a.m.Over the weekend a tree fell into the roadway in the Oakhurst at Kingwood Subdivision. The Precinct 4 on call person responded to the scene and cleared the roadway. This morning Precinct 4 workers went to Rock Creek at Oak Hurst Creek to remove the debris that had been left behind. They arrived with a Gradall and two dump trucks. As they were getting out of the truck and beginning their work a Nissan Maxima came around the curve at a high rate of speed striking two of the three and throwing one of those struck into a third employee. The vehicles had been parked to the side of the road with their flashers going.
Two of the employees, Walter Thorpe and Ronnie Tolbert were transported to Kingwood Hospital in stable condition. Danny Swindall was transported to Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center in critical condition with a head injury.
One of the workers was struck so hard that part of his red safety vest was embedded in the windshield.
The driver of the vehicle who lived in the subdivision was transported to Kingwood Hospital in stable condition.
A witness said the vehicle came past her at a high rate of speed just before the crash. The posted speed limit in the subdivision is 30MPH.
DPS is investigating the crash along with the Montgomery County Vehicular Crimes Unit who also responded to the scene.
The road was closed for almost three hours as the investigation was completed.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Porter Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
