Earlier this year Michael Ramirez with the Porter Fire Department started putting an idea to work. He came up with a plan to bring all Montgomery County First Responders together for a softball tournament. With several months of work his final product was revealed Saturday. With a donation of $500 per team, over $7000.00 was raised for Texas Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands. Both EMS, fire and law enforcement hit the field at 8am Saturday morning for a fight to the finish. Team after team was eliminated. Some of the teams such as North Montgomery County Fire, Conroe Fire, Needham Fire and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office played up to five games each, some of those with only a 30-minute break between. In the end, it came down to North Montgomery County and Conroe battling it out when heavy rains moved in. After several players found they could not even run out of the batter’s box without falling in the mud, the game was called. North Montgomery County Fire was declared the winner of this year’s belt.
