A Missouri City man was killed Sunday morning in a major accident on Hwy 59 in East Montgomery County. The crash occurred on the main lanes near Kingwood Drive. There was some initial confusion over whether the crash occurred in Harris or Montgomery County. It was later determined the crash was in Montgomery County.
However, the Houston Police Department conducted the investigation.
According to HPD Officer B. Brown, the adult male victim and an adult female were southbound on Hwy 59 in a Chevrolet Aveo around 4:30 a.m. when they pulled over to the shoulder to take a break and change drivers. Brown said the male victim had exited the vehicle when a red Dodge Ram pickup veered onto the shoulder, striking him and his vehicle.
The pickup then rolled over and stopped. The driver of the Aveo was pronounced dead on the scene and his body was sent to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The pickup’s driver was transported to a Houston area hospital, and the Aveo’s female passenger was not injured.
Brown said there was no evidence the red truck’s driver was intoxicated, but his blood was drawn for analysis.
No citations were issued on the scene, pending completion of the investigation.
