Just after 11 a.m. this morning several workers with CT Logging were in a field at Crighton and Moorehead. They had just finished working on another piece of equipment when a worker on the same property informed them their log loaded was on fire. Within seconds it was in flames.
River Plantation Fire Department responded to the scene and attacked the growing fire. Trees had been cut in the area and began to burn. With a dozer on the scene the fire was kept from spreading into the woods on Crighton Road which is extremely dense.
Firefighters continued to dump water on it as hydraulic lines erupted in flames as did the rubber tires.
Caney Creek was requested for additional water supply. The equipment was a total loss. Firefighters stood by and continued to cool it as you could hear hydraulic fluid boiling in the tank.
