ESCAPEE RETURNS TO FACE TRIAL

Famous Fugitive is in Montgomery County JailArcade Joseph Comeaux Jr., who made a daring escape in 2009 has returned to the Montgomery County Jail Friday night from his TDC prison cell. Comeaux who in December of 2009 while in-transit from Huntsville’s Estelle Unit to the Stiles Unit in Beaumont took two guards hostage when they pulled into the Exxon at SH 105 and Interstate 45 in Conroe. Comeaux, who had been in TDC for aggravated sexual assault and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon was said to be wheelchair bound.

The van was later found in Baytown which started a manhunt for the suspect. He fled the van in one of the guards uniforms along with their weapons. The guards cuffed in the back and the window shot out from the inside.

He was later captured and because the over taking of the guards happened in Montgomery County the charges were filed here. He currently is charged with escape causing bodily injury and two counts of aggravated kidnapping.

He is scheduled for trial starting Monday in the 359th District Court.
