Evader makes capture easy

February 10, 2009

CONROE- A career criminal again found himself in the Montgomery County Jail early Monday morning, after police say he fled the scene of a major accident that occurred while he was driving drunk and injured another driver.

Don Allen Bell, 45, who lives in the 10,100 block of Park Road in Somerville, was charged with driving while intoxicated, 3rd or more and accident involving injury / death.

The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Davis St. and Frazier St. in Conroe when police say Bell’s 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup collided with a 1999 Mazda sedan.

The Mazda’s driver was transported by MCHD ground ambulance to Conroe Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

Conroe Police Sgt. Bob Berry said Bell fled on foot, southbound on Frazier St. When officers located him, he ran again.

Ironically, Bell was found and arrested in the 700 block of Old Montgomery Rd. directly in front of the Conroe Police Department.

Because the accident involved injuries, a warrant was signed for a mandatory blood draw.

Public Data shows Bell pleaded guilty to a charge of “driving while intoxicated 3rd or more” in January 2000 and was sentenced to five years confinement and five years probation. Bell’s other convictions include burglary of a habitation and failure to stop and give information.
A 1999 charge of “driving while license suspended / invalid” was dismissed.
