Beginning the end of February expect some major delays on US 59 going to Houston. Construction is set to begin demolishing the southbound bridge over the San Jacinto River and rebuilding it. During this time traffic will be diverted onto the northbound lanes. The reason for the emergency construction is that during Hurricane Harvey, the flow of the San Jacinto River was drastically increased. The heavy flow undermined the bridge columns. Currently loads over 80,000 are restricted from using the bridge and are being routed to the feeders. The contract was awarded to Weber Construction and is expected to last 4 months according to TXDOT.
