Fake Cops Commit Home Invasion

Armed men dressed as sheriff’s deputies committed a home invasion in South Liberty County before dawn Sunday, terrorizing the occupants and leaving with thousands of dollars and firearms.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Arthur and Elizabeth Harrison who lives on FM 2830 South in the City of Ames, called the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department wanting to know why the Sheriff’s Department “raided” their home early this morning. Dep. Ranson Martel, Sgt. Joel Davila and Sgt. Investigator Billy Knox responded to the scene where it was quickly determined that whoever the two male subjects were, in fact, despite their dress, not Officers as no such activity was in operation by any agency in the county at that particular time. In addition, the activity the behavior of the two suspects committed was not in line with proper law enforcement procedures.

According to Sgt. Davila, Arthur Harrison, age 57 and his wife, Elizabeth, age 61, reported they were in their home preparing for Mr. Harrison to go to work, when the front door was kicked open by two male subjects dressed in black clothing and black mask as well as what appeared to be police type gun belts, boots and gloves. It was reported the “uniforms” had a Sheriff’s Department styled shoulder patch and some type of badges were displayed on the clothing. Both suspects had hand guns and kept yelling “…Liberty County Sheriff’s Department…. get on the floor…”. A pillow case was placed over their heads but they were not bound or tied up. The suspects demanded to know where they kept the money and after they were told, the suspects escaped the scene with a suitcase containing approximately $6,000, a shotgun and a .22 revolver. No vehicle was seen by the Harrison’s.

In an attempt to identify the clothing more closely, Sgt. Davila showed the Harrison’s the Sheriff’s Department shoulder patch on his own uniform as well as his badge but the Harrison’s said they could not be sure that the shoulder patch and badge displayed on the suspects clothing was, in fact, exactly the same as Sgt. Davila’s. The Harrisons said they were trying to identify the suspect while looking through the pillow cases.

The only physical description the Harrison’s could give on the two suspects was by their voices and they thought one suspect was a black male and the other one was white. No other description was obtained by the victims.

The Harrison’s told the investigating Deputies they were gamblers and that was the reason they had such a large amount of money on hand. Sgt. Davila reported the home of the Harrison’s had, in fact, been the subject of a drug raid on August 21st. by the Department of Public Safety, the Daisetta Police Department and the D.E.A.

Sgt. Billy Knox is presently the lead investigator and at this time the case is under continued investigation. If anyone has additional information on this case, they are ask to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department at (936) 336-4500 and forward such information.
