FAMILY ESCAPES INJURY AFTER HEAD-ON CRASH WITH IMPAIRED DRIVER

Just after 6 pm on Saturday, a family who had just recently moved to the area was traveling north on Old Houston Road just off FM 1314. As they approached the first curve in their GMC Denali and Chevrolet Equinox driven by Felipe De Jesus Santana Sanjuan, 38, of 15787 Old Houston Road came around the curve at a high rate of speed and struck them head-on. Luckily there were no injuries. After the crash on of the passengers in the Equinox, Santos Ernesto Lorenzo Lopez, 33, of 7500 Plum Creek Drive in Houston, decided to leave the scene of the crash. When he was located by deputies at a local convenience store he refused to return to the scene or give any information on the crash. He was arrested for interfering with public duties. The driver of the Equinox was arrested for DWI. This was the beginning of the night from 6 pm to 6 am Sunday a dozen persons were arrested for DWI and another half-dozen for public intoxication.
