FATAL ACCIDENT IN CONROE

Just before 6am on Saturday Conroe Police were dispatched to a reported auto-pedestrian crash in the 14000 block of Interstate 45 south on the northbound side. Units arrived to find the pedestrian, identified as Steven Johnson, 57 deceased. Investigators with the Conroe Police Department say that Johnson was walking in the northbound lane of traffic when he was struck by a 2012 Nissan pickup driven by Alfredo Mendoza, 36. Johnsons vehicle was found on the east shoulder of the northbound main lanes of the freeway with the emergency flashers on. Mendoza was transported to Conroe Medical Center for a voluntary blood draw. Johnson had just celebrated his birthday the day before his death. Montgomery County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Spikes responded to the scene and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport Johnson to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
