Just after 10 am Thursday morning Demetria Torres Cruz, 46 of Shepard was exiting US59 southbound at FM1314. As she approached Forest Colony she rear-ended a water truck owned by Texas Sterling Construction.
The water truck was moving slowly in the left lane of the three-lane feeder as it watered the newly planted grass. It did have flashers and a slow-moving vehicle placard displayed.
Cruz for unknown reasons approached the tanker in her 1996 Chevrolet Silverado at a high rate of speed. Just before impact, it appears she attempted to take evasive action by trying to swerve to the right. The driver’s side of her truck struck the right rear of the water truck killing Cruz instantly. There were no skid marks.
Trooper Roger Wolsey said, “family and friends advised she was on her way to work in Porter”.
