Just after 6:30 a.m. Monday morning EMC Fire was dispatched to a major accident on FM 1485 in front of the Wild Country RV Park, just south of Gene Campbell. Units arrived to find a 67-year-old male, deceased on the northbound shoulder of the roadway. A Ford Explored with heavy front end damage was in the middle of the road. MCSO closed the road. DPS arrived on the scene to investigate the crash. They learned the male who resided with family in the RV Park had gone across the street to the Valero for his morning coffee. As he returned traffic was quite heavy. He waited several minutes and as a northbound 18-wheeler passed he crossed in front of the northbound Expedition. None of the occupants of the Expedition were injured. Montgomery County Justice of the Peace Jason Dunn was notified and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. EMC Wrecker removed the vehicle from the scene. The road was reopened at 9:30 am. DPS is continuing the investigation.
