About 5 pm a male driver was traveling east on SH 105. As he crossed the Caney Creek bridge he lost control on the heavy icing on the bridge. His Toyota Tundra slid into the westbound lane and was struck by a 19-year old male driving a Ford Expedition. The 67-year-old driver of the Tundra was pronounced deceased on the scene after NMC firefighters cut him out. Montgomery County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts responded to the scene to perform an inquest. He ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. As of 9pm the wreck has cleared, however TXDOT is attempting to sand and treat the road. They are currently enroute with a second load of product as the ice was quite thick. During the crash investigation the road temperature measured right at 20 degrees. At 10 p.m. the SH 105 bridge over Caney Creek remained closed due to heavy icing. TXDOT crews were working to reopen it.
