Just after 6 pm Sunday, an 18-wheeler was traveling south on I-45 in Huntsville. As the driver passed Highway 30, he rear-ended a KIA passenger car. The impact drove the KIA up onto a trailer towing a mini-excavator. The KIA went up the left side of the trailer, hit the mini-excavator, knocking it off the trailer. The KIA then continued forward, striking the Chevrolet 2500 pickup that was towing it. The KIA sliced the tailgate before striking the roof of the pickup, collapsing it. The KIA then rolled onto its roof. The 18-wheeler continued south for about half a mile before getting stopped. The impact ripped off his chrome cattle guard and heavily damaged the front end. Huntsville Firefighters responded. After cutting the victim out of the vehicle, it was determined that the victim was deceased. DPS investigated the crash. I-45 was closed for over two hours; however, at times, an inside lane was open. DPS has not yet released the victim’s name.
