At 8:06 p.m. Thursday, a black 2017 BMW was traveling north on Gossling Road near Gatewood at an unsafe speed. The rain was very heavy at the time. The driver, identified as Riguiel Enrique Serra-Lopez, 20, of Houston, lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway. drove up onto the median and crashed into a tree. The driver was pronounced deceased on the scene. His front-seat passenger was critically injured, the backseat passenger was not injured. The two passengers have not yet been identified. DPS investigated the crash with pouring down rain. On Friday a Trooper returned to the scene to take additional photos. Amazingly, someone had cut the tree that was struck down and disposed of the tree.
