fatal crash in willis

Just before 7:00 p.m. Saturday night Albert Leon Garner Jr., 58 of Houston was driving his 1980 Chevrolet El Camino southbound on US 75 just north of Shepherd Hill. As he approached the Knights of Columbus Hall a black Ford F350 pickup which was northbound turned left in front of the El Camino to pull into the Knights of Columbus parking lot.

The Ford truck driven by Mark Alan Compton Jr., 24 of Missouri City struck the left front of the El Camino shearing the drivers door off and cutting through the “A” post. Several witnesses and a wrecker driver cut Garner out of the seat belt of his vehicle and started CPR but when North Montgomery County Fire Department and MCHD arrived it was too late.

Compton’s passenger Trey Alan Compton 18, of Gladewater, Texas was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Compton, the driver of the Ford pickup and his passenger Charles Edward Williams, 61, of Houston were also transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.

Justice of the Peace Spikes pronounced Garner Jr. dead at the scene and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport Albert Garner to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.

US 75 reopened just after 10:30 p.m.
