Fatal Accident, East Polk County, SODA, January 30, 2018 – Shortly after 3 pm on January 30, 2018, a large box truck, driven by Wayne Davis, 59 of Houston, was west-bound on US-190 East. Davis had to stop for current road construction. While waiting for permission to resume his trip, Davis was slammed from behind by a silver 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Charles Earl Damron, 70, of Livingston. The impact jolted Davis who exited his truck and was physically okay. Damron didn’t fair as well. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Indian Springs Volunteer Fire Department and Troopers John Allen, Corporal Ramey Bass, Darwon Evans, Donny Akers, Chris Cain, and Sergeant Sam Lattner with the Texas Highway Patrol. Damron was rushed by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital and is believed to have passed away while enroute. Damron was pronounced deceased at the hospital. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Damron’s vehicle was recovered by Ken’s Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. Davis’ box truck was driven from the scene.
