FATAL CRASH ON FM 149

At 8:15 Thursday morning Montgomery and Magnolia Fire Departments were dispatched to a head-on crash on FM 149 between Keenan Cutoff and Jackson Road. Units arrived on the scene just north of the Lake Creek bridge and found a 2021 KIA Sorento in the ditch and a 1996 Ford F250 pickup on the opposite side of the roadway. The  49-year-old female driver of the KIA was deceased. The driver of the pickup was not injured.  According to DPS the F250 pickup was southbound and lost control on the wet road as it was coming out of the curves. The truck then crossed the centerline and struck the KIA on the far right side of the northbound lanes. They do not believe excessive speed was a factor. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Crimes unit responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. There are no charges at the present time. This is one of several crashes. Almost three weeks ago just a few hundred yards north the driver died several days after being transported to the hospital after a crash and on Valentine’s Day 2017, Magnolia High Student Darian Eckhardt, 18, was on her way to school on wet roads when she struck an 18-wheeler head-on just 100-feet north of today’s crash.  About 11 am as the crash scene was clearing heavy fog started to roll into the area. Montgomery County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Matt Masden performed the inquest and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. Magnolia Wrecker removed the truck from the scene. Husky Wrecker Service removed the KIA.
