MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- Just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Splendora Police responded to a reported major crash with vehicle fire and person trapped on I-69 / Hwy 59 southbound at the entrance ramp from Fostoria Road. East Montgomery County Fire Department also responded.
They arrived to find the Nissan Altima was not actually on fire, but the driver was entrapped. Crews spent about 15 minutes cutting the 33-year-old man out of the crashed vehicle. Then, they determined he was deceased.
According to Splendora’s Assistant Police Chief, the Nissan was southbound on the feeder and for unknown reasons, left the roadway and struck a culvert, causing extensive damage to the vehicle, and the death of its driver.
The roadway was dry at the time of the crash, but shortly after a light mist started to fall. The victim was transported by Rios Funeral Home to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
