On Sunday, October 27, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, Dianne Wheeler was operating a red 2021 Kia Sportage traveling west in the westbound lane in the 33700 block of FM 1488, entering a curve in the roadway. Three motorcycle riders were traveling east in the eastbound lanes in a staggered formation in the same block range, entering the same curve. Travis Bailey was operating a 2016 Kawasaki Ninja. Daniel Perez was operating a black 2020 Yamaha R6. Kelley Tompkins was operating a 2024 Aprilia RSV4. Wheeler failed to drive in a single lane entering the eastbound lane and striking Bailey head-on. Perez was struck by debris from the crash causing damage to the front of his motorcycle. Do to the debris field and impending danger of the other three vehicles it was impractical and improbable for Tompkins to negotiate the curve safely causing him to enter the improved shoulder and the grassy ditch where he lost control. Wheeler was transported to Memorial Hermann Cypress with minor injuries. Bailey was found on scene with no signs of life at approximately 947am by Waller County EMS. Perez was uninjured in the crash. Tompkins was transported to Memorial Hermann TMC via Life Flight in critical condition. This crash remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
