FBI & HCSO Secure Perimeter in North Houston

The Houston Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office have locked down an area near Hugh Road and Crescent Peak Drive, off of TC Jester in north Houston, west of I-45, north of Beltway 8 and south of The Grand Parkway / 99.

The FBI didn’t specify reasons for their investigation and setting a perimeter. However, a Houston man has been identified as the driver responsible for 10 deaths overnight in New Orleans. The driver, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, drove a vehicle reportedly rented in the Houston area and struck New Years’ revelers intentionally. Ten were killed and more were injured.

The following statement is the only information released by the FBI’s Houston Office:

FBI Houston and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are currently conducting law enforcement activity near the intersection of Hugh Road and Crescent Peak Drive in north Houston. We have secured a perimeter in that area and are asking people to avoid the area. FBI Houston personnel and specialized teams will be on-site for several hours. This activity is related to this morning’s New Orleans attack, but due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no further information can be provided.
