Governor Abbott Says Not So Fast…
The Justice Department’s Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta made the following statement following a federal judge’s ruling on a motion for preliminary injunction by the Justice Department in the case U.S. v. Abbott et al.
“Today, a federal judge granted a preliminary injunction requiring Texas to remove its floating barrier from the middle of the Rio Grande and prohibiting Texas from constructing new barriers in the river. We are pleased that the court ruled that the barrier was unlawful and irreparably harms diplomatic relations, public safety, navigation, and the operations of federal agency officials in and around the Rio Grande.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded, as most Texans expected.
“Texas will appeal,” Abbott said. “Today’s court decision merely prolongs President Biden’s willful refusal to acknowledge that Texas is rightfully stepping up to do the job that he should have been doing all along. This ruling is incorrect and will be overturned on appeal. We will continue to utilize every strategy to secure the border, including deploying Texas National Guard soldiers and Department of Public Safety troopers and installing strategic barriers. Our battle to defend Texas’ sovereign authority to protect lives from the chaos caused by President Biden’s open border policies has only begun. Texas is prepared to take this fight all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
