Fire consumes EMC wooded area

For the second day in a row, East Montgomery County firefighters battled a large grass and woods fire. Porter Fire Chief Jody Binnion said when the call was dispatched around 12:45 p.m. it was believed to be the same fire as the previous day, but turned out to be about a half mile away.

About three acres were burning when firefighters arrived. PFD contacted the Texas Forest Service, due to a lack of access, and called for assistance from other area fire departments.

TFS cut a line around the fire and contained it to around eight acres. Some structures were threatened, but firefighters were able successfully protect them.

Binnion said there was reason to believe the fires were arson, but the TFS investigation is not complete.

Today is expected to be windy with low humidity.

Videographer Scott Engle was on-scene capturing the action on Saturday and Sunday.
